MEMBER'S BACKGROUND

Background: DanChurchAid (DCA) assists the world’s poorest to lead a life in dignity. Globally, DCA runs more than 600 projects annually aimed at promoting human rights and increasing food security in 19 countries. In Cambodia, DCA has been operating since 1979, initially supporting reconstruction efforts and resettlement of refugees and in 1990 opening an office in Phnom Penh to work directly with local partners on critical issues including active citizenship, gender equality, resilient agriculture, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response. Our work is grounded in cooperation with local organizations, which are generally in the best position to know and assess the local context, and DCA in Cambodia currently partners with 20 local NGOs at both national and local levels, providing funding a swell as capacity building and organizational development assistance.

Describe what organization will contribute to CSR: DCA Cambodia can make the following contributions to the CSR Platform:
• Provide capacity building and prioritize incorporation of CSR and Business and Human Rights principles into the work of its local partners
• Promote and involve local partners in advocacy efforts of the CSR Platform
• Provide funding and technical support for CSR initiatives either by CSR Platform members or DCA local partners
• Sponsor training and networking opportunities on CSR and Business and Human Rights in Cambodia and/or internationally for key staff of CSR Platform members or DCA local partners

CSR ACTIVITIES

CSR Activities: DCA Cambodia’s country programme for 2016-2020 highlights business and human rights as a key area of engagement going forward. Current and pending CSR initiatives by DCA Cambodia include:
• Partnering with the private sector to provide livelihood training in vulnerable communities
• Establishing partnerships among NGOs and within the micro-finance industry to establish a system for swift cash transfers in humanitarian response situations
• Working with Danish businesses to facilitate linkages for in-kind donations to Cambodian civil society, particularly in the agriculture sector
• Supporting smallholder farmers and agricultural cooperatives to gain increased access to markets, including by improving value chains (e.g. processing and marketing) and providing links to international buyers
• Cooperating with local companies to reduce the exposure to disasters faced by their property as well as by surrounding communities
